Swag as an ethical discourse is concerned with a determination to not be exploited, to standout over and against external oppressive forces that continue to preach exploitative work as the only sort of work possible for a human being."

on point.

(i'd comment further but what more is there to say...you do the work for me ;)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-979743332482789681.post-5294835593438424462011-07-05T14:40:34.592-05:002011-07-05T14:40:34.592-05:00As an English grad I appreciate the close readings...As an English grad I appreciate the close readings of rap verse above as a way of articulating the ethics of hip-hop culture which is too often only viewed as a signifier of social ills. Growing up as a second generation Black British woman I have developed a very different work ethic to my parents. Reconciling our goals and reference points has been challenging and often stressful as I wonder whether I aspire for too much, being unwilling to work and be underpaid, or even to spend my best hours doing jobs that offer no sense of pride or fulfilment. The explanation around the relation to labour and product in Hip-Hop culture has helped to parallel and contextualise my own experience.

This is a brilliantly intelligent reflection, coherent and focused. It inspires me to work to achieve the same in my writing.

I blog at The Black List http://NikkisBlackList.tumblr.com/

Extended essays: http://NicholeBlack.com/Nichole Blackhttp://nikkisblacklist.tumblr.com/noreply@blogger.com
